Wellness Services FAQ

What is a wellness check-in?

A wellness check-in is a one-on-one session with a licensed professional who specializes in working with the public safety sector. The up to 60-minute visit provides a confidential opportunity for individuals to reflect on their own mental health and wellness. After identifying the needs of the individual, the remaining portion of the session will focus on solutions allowing the individual to function at their best, both at work and at home. Possible topics may include (but are not limited to):

Creating a wellness plan
Peak performance
Balancing professional and personal life
How to build support systems
Stress management tools
How to be proactive in reducing the effects of cumulative stress and trauma

Unlike an EAP session, this is not a “reactive” approach to mental health but is a “proactive” strategy to overall wellness. Wellness visits are not psychological assessments or fit-for-duty evaluations. This is intentional to offer a non-threatening and safe environment for employees to feel most comfortable.

Why the focus on mental wellness?

For years, there has been a focus on tactical and physical fitness in the public safety sector.  While these are vital to physical safety, we feel mental health and wellness are equally important.  Work in the public safety sector is inherently stressful. Just as you visit your doctor and dentist for annual checkups, being proactive about your mental health has many quality-of-life benefits. These benefits include (but are not limited to) improved relationships, physical health, peak performance, work longevity, and catching and treating any issues early. Wellness Programs also support the Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act that was signed into law in January 2018. w can Mental Health Treatments Benefit First Responders?

Are the wellness check-ins confidential?

Yes. These meetings are confidential and considered legally privileged. By offering this service through our secured video conferencing platform (Simple Practice), the barriers are lowered for utilization with flexible and convenient offerings. The licensed professional will strictly protect all employee information and details that are shared. The only information shared with Administrative Staff will be the total number of appointments scheduled each quarter.
